DesiBucks

Objective:

The objective of Desi Bucks is to increase student involvement, participation, and excitement within the school. Students will be with Desi Bucks through participation and good behavior.

Distribution:

DesiBucks will be distributed in the following manner:
  1. A volunteer will distribute 1 DesiBuck to any student arriving by 9:28am.
    • If a student arrives early for a class presentation, he or she will only receive a DesiBuck if seated in the morning assembly until the time of presentations.
  2. Students can earn additional Desibucks by participating in Story-telling activities. The amount rewarded depends on the role.
  3. Teachers may also purchase Desi Bucks from their allocated budget to hand out to their students. Each teacher is allowed a ratio of 2:1 DesiBucks per student for the session, to be handed out as they see fit.
DesiBucks expire at the end of the session. They cannot be carried over to next session.

Story Telling

  1. Coordinators will develop story ideas.
  2. Students will sign up for the various roles including Director, Producer, Writer, Actor.
  3. Rehearsal may be performed after 11:45 (parent consent required).
  4. Reward will be divided into two categores: onstage and offstage.
  5. Topics will be based on our Culture and Heritage.
  6. We expect 2-week turnaround time after the story is approved.

Benefits

  1. More students come to school on time.
  2. We convey the culture and valuable life lessons to the students.
  3. Students are more involved during prayer time.
  4. They will be more likely to pay attention to their fellow classmates.
  5. Students have an additional opportunity to demonstrate public speaking and performance skills

Coordinators:

Arjun Khadse, Anisha Mittal, Nikita Shah would handle the distribution of the Desi Bucks, the organization of the storytelling, and the coordination among the teachers.

Reward:

  1. Once a month, we will open a School Store where students can buy prizes ranging from pencils to giant piggy banks.
  2. At major school event, we will host a table where students can collect on their rewards by bringing in their DesiBucks.
  3. The student with the most DesiBucks on the last day of school will be rewarded with a surprise from the volunteers.

Budget:

  1. At Costco, the cost of printing one buck is 0.03 cents (we have to cut the paper). The cost of printing 500 bills is $18. We need to explore other options.
  2. A budget of $400 is requeste for rewards.
  3. We request families to sponsor this activity and help raise money to pay for it.
    • Every month, we will host a bake sale where parents can buy treats. Their money will go to the enrichment of the program.

Conclusion:

We would like to involve the students, especially the younger ones, by providing an incentive system of sorts; which will hopefully not only reinforce student participation but make the students want to be involved in various school activities. One things students love is to play games and win. They love to compete and they love prizes. With the incorporation of both, students would be having fun, as well as participating more in the day-to-day life of Vidyalaya.
