Adolescence
As per Wikipedia
Erikson's stages of psychosocial development as articulated by Erik Erikson explain eight stages through which a healthily developing human should pass from infancy to late adulthood. In each stage the person confronts, and hopefully masters, new challenges. Each stage builds on the successful completion of earlier stages. The challenges of stages not successfully completed may be expected to reappear as problems in the future.

Vidyalaya has a well developed curriculum for Latency (5-12 years) stage of life. We share our Heritage (Language, Culture and Dharma) with our kids. It equips them with tools to face the challenges of the future. In this section, we try to address issues related to adolescence (13-19 years) stage of life. The objective is to work with students in a peer (as opposed to classroom teaching) environment and to help them make the best of the high school years. This program is being developed with the belief that a community organization has a role to help kids through adolescence stage. Our kids can be benefitted from the expertise available in the community as they prepare for the next stage of their life. We can help many of the kids improve on their relative performance.
Some of us have been victim of "familiary breeds contempt" syndrom and at times we feel that outside programs add value because of their high price tag and the "awe" factor. A peer platform coordinated by parents is likely to add more value. Two componets are being planned for "yet to be named" program. A family can participate in one or both the programs.
First component is called Vidyalaya High School Club and it meets every sunday at the school. It is a two and a half hour program and absense is strongly discouraged. In this program, we demonstrate mentorship, community service, school support group and learning new topics from various experts. We also try to develop a "winning" attitude as opposed to "do the best you can" thoughts. The families will enroll in regular Vidyalaya program. The other component is to organize off site events. Here we invite outsiders to share their knowledge and experience with us. A family/guidance counsellor who recently went through a college experiece will be invited to share their experience, followed by optional dinner and social get-together. These events will be organized on cost sharing basis.
Management
All decisions are regarding the content and scope of the program will be made by coordinator. Other coordinators will be consulted where required from cross department activities. It is a selection based program as opposed to enrollment based. The coordinators have a right to admit anyone or reject anyone based on the criterion set by them. The program will initially be coordinated by Umesh Mittal. Others may join the coordination team in future.VHSC | Vidyalaya High School Club |
