Those of us who are not an expert in contemporary college admission process either hire services of a guidance counsellor or engage in speculative conversations about what works. While one costs money with questionable value add proposition, the other can be dangerous to a growth of a child.
In our community we know many who have recently been through the process and have a view of how the process worked for them. There are many good professionals around but each family does not know them or know what questions to ask them when we meet them. The idea is to organize a group meeting with those who have something to say and those who want to know. It will be run in a debriefing style.
We will make an effort to document all findings and post on web repository. Creation of a database (college or major as keywords, for example) and fuzzy search of all content could also prove to be a very powerful tool over time.
If we do not have a guest speaker/family, we may also have a meeting provided there is a well defined topic. It may be subject tracks or career alignment or clubs.
Hosting: The group will initially be hosted by Nupur/Umesh Mittal. If we run out of space, we would encourage other families to run a parallel team.
