Class began with a recap of last weeks homework and a discussion of how to improve research and analytical skills. Then, the discussion progressed to important information to include in opening statement of debate and how to organize one. Students then broke up into small groups in order to create short sample opening. Students then presented sample opening arguments in face of feedback. Class ended with public speaking practice covering topics such as but not limited to: stance, hand motions, focus.
Homework:
- Students will be doing research in class. If you have a laptop and you can get your parent’s permission to bring in next class, that would be ideal.
- Write a three paragraph introduction for your topic and practice saying it. Your introduction will be presented to the entire club next time.
