This week’s class was less focused on content and more focused on public speaking. The class began with a discussion of the key components of public speaking. Many students expressed their fear of public speaking so Kevin and Shivam provided strategies to overcome these fears. Next, the students put their newly acquired skills to practice. Kevin and Shivam conducted a quick, mockdebate. The students chose a topic and spoke about it for a minute in front of the class while Kevin and Shivam critiqued their public speaking skills. After this exercise was completed, Kevin and Shivam had each student read a couple of paragraphs from a magazine. The students focused on the intonation of their voices and their posture. Finally, class ended with an overview of what a rebuttal consists of and how to write one.
