Week 32
Friends -
We ended the school year with a boatload of fun at the picnic this past Sunday. Thanks for coming out in strength to celebrate the beginning of summer with our extended Vidyalaya family. We saw a lot of kids wearing school spirit wear - way to show your support!
It was a sultry hot 84 degree summer day; so glad we dodged the weeklong spell of rain that has followed it. This year we could not hold the picnic at Hedden Park so we missed the water streams, but then we had ample parking here and lots of playgrounds. Several of you also enjoyed roller skating and biking in the park. We started the picnic with mixed cultural breakfast of donuts, bagels mixed with bhajiyas, dhoklas and yummy jalebi.
We usually always had Indian food at the picnic, but this year we tried pizza, pasta and salad instead. It was a welcome change and the kids especially loved it. Kids and adults alike played a lot of games like badminton, frisbee, bean bag toss, jump ropes, tug of war and the usual favorite, cricket. Ladies had a lot of fun with Zumba moves along with foot tapping music. Kids had fun with tattoos and face painting activities. Watermelons are a mainstay at the picnic but ice cream with toppings took the cake this year; what better way to end the picnic than that.
So many of you helped to make the picnic a big success and we are very appreciative of all the help - especially in setup and clean up. All those who were there pitched in, way too many to name here. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Thanks to Gautam Khanna and Vikas Jain for picking up the breakfast first thing in the morning. Special thanks to Mahendra Patel and Preya for the special run to get ice-cream. Deepa Gaitonde - thanks for the Zumba lesson, it was a very popular item. Bhupesh and Mahesh Mistry - appreciate your run in the middle of the picnic to get battery backup for the speaker system and the ice; it was a life saver. Thank you all who helped for the food set-up and distribution - Mayank Goswami, Rajesh Sansi, Joshna Mistry, Chitra Rochlani, Asmita Mistry, Malini Joshi and Vikas Jain. Thanks to Malini Arora and helpers for face painting and tattoo activities. Dilip Mandavia covered the event well with pictures - thanks a lot; we can't wait to see them. Last but not the least, thanks to Anurag Rochlani and Praveen Mehrotra, my partners in crime in planning and implementing this picnic. Have a great Summer and see you all in September.
